Yesterday my niece Norah Elyse was born 11 weeks early. I promised my sister-in-law I would make a crochet princess crown for her… of course it wasn’t done. I am in the Los Angeles area and have been for the last few days so I quickly googled a Michaels which wasn’t far away and rode on over to get some yarn. The FedEx store was close to Michaels so what do I do… yes… I crochet a little princess crown in the parking lot of FedEx. Just picture me at my Harley crocheting out of the tour pack… with my leather chaps and biker gear on. I wasn’t quite sure how to do it or even what size it should be. All I brought with me were my crochet hooks and a pair of scissors. I started and of course completely messed up the first try but the second one came out ok. Probably quite large but it gives room to grow… and you can always modify. So it is sent off to arrive on Monday for Norah. (excuse the duck tape biker seat)

I can’t believe I did not post pictures of the doggie ponchos I made for my 2 chihuahuas this last summer. I got really busy traveling and working and I apologize for being such a slacker. Hard to keep up when you don’t always have internet. But back to my Doggie Ponchos.
So I had a little bit of extra yarn and really needed to crochet something. There weren’t really any yarn places anywhere around where I was working this last summer. I was in Virginia City Montana working at an old time photo place as a photographer assistant.
If you are in the area this next summer I will be there again. Be sure to stop by Wallace Street Photographic Emporium in Virginia City Montana and say HI. Would love to meet you all in person.
Anywhos… as my going away gift last summer the people I worked for took some pictures of me and my boys… and the boys were wearing the ponchos I made. Too fun. Hope you enjoy!
My mom needed a hat for her Red Hats Derby party next week. She gave me a few things she wanted me to use.
The yarn is cotton so it was breathable, 2 medallions but I only used 1, flower buttons and wire that is used with flower arrangements. She also added later a zebra she painted as a “horse of many colors” but really looks like a donkey of many colors and some fake flowers.
She said she wanted it big… wide and tall. I thought about it for a few days and started… of course it turned into something I couldn’t even imagine if I wanted to. I just kind of went with it and if it seemed like it was going somewhere I didn’t like I just adjusted the stitch and fixed it in the pattern. I think it turned out pretty good.
And here are some picture of me modeling the hat
I used the flower stems and the wire that I had off the bat to support the hat. I just weaved it thru nothing too complicated. It is being used by an adult so I am not concerned about my mom poking herself. I warned her to check before putting on the hat. If I had more time I would find a better way to hide the wired. I connected the “horse” by tying it on to the side and rim of the hat… again a simple and quick solution because my time ran out.
I used the shiny ribbon and glitter flower buttons to give a bit of sparkle which is always necessary with big hats. And it also has a nice large rim to go with a Kentucky Derby hat. It took a few days to make and I used up all the yarn of those colors I had plus used a purple/multi colored yarn around the rim edge to make it a bit larger. It actually goes quite well… in the purple yarn there is a green/yellow color that went with the rest of the hat.
So that was my fun for the last week. I like a good challenge and the freedom to do whatever I want with the materials given… will have to do this again soon.
I finally finished my other pillow case. These are for those small travel pillows. I use them in my trailer because a regular size pillow is just too big.
I used a cotton yarn so hopefully they will clean easily. 🙂 They sure are comfy.
My dog Poco hurt his eye the other day… he has just been pitiful for the past few weeks. He is my oldest and will be 13 in August. Yesterday I was a bit bored and his eye was bothering him so I thought I would make a doggie eye patch. hahaha… it needs a little bit of work but here you go.
I know he is not feeling well if he lets me put things on him. My other dog Nube is usually the one I crochet things for because he doesn’t mind.
I figured it needed to go more around the ears and in a way around his chin of sorts to keep it on but not choke him. It also needs to be loose so that his eye can breathe a little. I think I need one more strap or something on the other side of the patch.. but I don’t want it to interrupt his view from his good eye.
He is such a good baby. Not too big of a fan of the eye patch but it did entertain me for a bit while he was sleeping. 😉
It has been a pretty exciting few weeks. Neldee is now at The Cadiz Comfort Zone. This is in downtown Cadiz, KY and all items are handcrafted by local artists.
I also had a nice blog post about Neldee from a recent customer. You can check that out here: http://pillowsalamode.wordpress.com/2013/02/02/love-those-neldee-hats/
Here are a few items I made this last week. I also made the Alpaca scarf from the previous post.
If interested or have any questions email firstname.lastname@example.org
I finished up this Alpaca scarf this week. I do have to say it was hard to crochet… not that the yarn itself was hard to use but it looked like hair and for whatever reason just really grossed me out. hahaha… I guess since I have been bald by choice when I see hair places or have to deal with hair it brings this disgusted reaction… really kind of odd. But it did turn out nice… and it is really soft. 😉
